The Journey of The PickPlus, the World's Greatest Guitar Pick continues...
It all started a long time ago while playing the guitar and getting pissed at the rotating and falling picks from my hands.. I was just trying to get the songs right, let alone holding a damn pick properly! Anyways, i started cutting out these new shapes from old casino player cards and old credit cards and playing with the shapes and their playability and functionality as a pick in your fingers and all that until one day in March of 2019.. or 2020.. i forget by now when it all started.. and the news came of the new Pandemic and the lockdown that was about to commence to thwart the onslaught of the spread of this heinous new virus.
Well it wasn't long before we all adapted to the new way of life and people started changing their ways. They started staying up late, sleeping in longer, day drinking and smoking weed and all other sorts of new lifestyles that were contrary to the regimented, disciplined workday routine we all new and loved. Instead of suits and dresses, sweats and pajamas became the uniform of choice as America and the world settled in for a long break of routine and a new lifestyle, exchanging workflow for hobbies and workouts for rest. As a lifelong night-owl myself, i easily adapted to the quarantine lifestyle and hours of operation when one night i stumbled across this new thing on my laptop on the internet that i had never seen until now. This was when i discovered Kickstarter.
Kickstarter is a cool website where you post your project or business you are building and you ask for investors to reach a specific money goal. You generally have 30 days to meet the goal and if you do, you get the full amount of money that was pledged. If you don't reach the goal, you get none of the money and those who pledged it aren't charged anything. Well it just so happened i decided i wanted to try and patent my guitar pick design and it cost a filing fee of $2500. Where to better see what the world thought of your idea and at the same time, potentially raise the money you need. I searched for the catch and upon finding nothing terrible, i decided id jump in with both feet and see what happens!
Now Kickstarter is a very reputable and complex website that goes much deeper in scope and in requirements to be a candidate. You need to be accepted and you have alot of work to do to get there. I figured that work would help flesh out the idea that much more so i began my kickstarter campaign in earnest, June 1 20..something..with a due date of July 15, 45 days in total and lo and behold my idea and campaign were accepted and we were off to the races!
They say it's the journey, not the destination and this was/is certainly true for me and the pickplus, both in Kickstarter and the ventures that followed. Although we didn't meet our ultimate goal of $2500, we raised a symbolic $2200 and the lessons learned along the way were/are worth their weight in gold and as it turns out, we actually had offers from certain people to complete the goal as a gesture of good will, but we decided it would be best for it to remain organic in the process and release those who pledged money from their debts and move forward ourselves. Based on the feedback and encouragement we received during our campaign, we decided to take the next step and explore what options we had for manufacturing and to see how we could sell the picks.
Well said my friend. Just saw this and I like it!
